Shortly before Christmas 2012, Dr. Earl Heller, longtime South Bend, Indiana, orthopedic surgeon, sent his alma mater a very special Christmas gift: $1 million. Dr. Heller made the donation with the direction that it be used to begin the process of establishing a new chapel at Carroll College. Born and raised in Helena, Dr. Heller attended Cathedral High School and after graduating from Carroll earned his medical degree at the University of Kansas. Dr. Heller practiced orthopedic surgery in South Bend from 1971 to 2012.
“No amount of money can compensate Carroll College for all of the benefits bestowed on me as a result of attending Carroll. However, I am making this donation with the intention of honoring those who have worked so hard to make Carroll such a great place of learning. I’m hopeful my gift will encourage others to become donors and that a new chapel will serve as a memorial to those who have dedicated their life to Carroll.”
