For me, one of the most gratifying aspects of chairing this campaign has been the opportunity to honor my uncle, Archbishop Raymond “Dutch” Hunthausen.
From his time at Carroll as a student, professor, coach, President and Bishop of Helena, Dutch’s fingerprints can be found all over Carroll's campus; in the trees he planted that now enhance the beauty of this place; in the physical structures that he helped to build and in the work of the Hunthausen Center for Peace and Justice that he inspired.
But there’s more to Dutch’s legacy than meets the eye; Dutch truly embodies Carroll’s vision of mind, body and spirit. He has created a stirring legacy extending from Carroll to the international arena and he has inspired generations to follow his example of extraordinary service to the human family. His leadership and dedication to the spiritual, social, emotional and physical needs of students is evident across campus. His desire to see this legacy live on through the creation of the Hunthausen Activity Center will ensure that Carroll continues to provide a holistic approach to educating its students - in mind, body and spirit.
Please visit our campaign website and consider a gift to help us honor Dutch’s legacy.
